Two war orphans, Joseph, apprentice printer, and Lisette, typist, live with their grandmother in Belleville. Lisette loves his next door neighbor, the painter Amedee, but this one does not offer him a union. Joseph Amedee learning is the son of a general, advocates for Lisette and everything ends in marriage.

Victor Derval is returning home after a performance when he is hailed by Lisa, a young Hungarian woman. Her motives are mysterious; is she simply a star-struck peasant girl, or an ambitious, manipulative aspiring star?

Alexandre Gordy voit Cathérine dans une revue au Casino de Paris et pense qu'elle est faite pour le rôle de protagoniste dans la nouvelle comédie et l'invite dans sa villa sur la Côte d'Azur. Cathérine arrive, mais accompagnée de toute sa famille, bouleversant ainsi les plans d'Alexandre. De plus, dans la villa vit aussi Jacques, qui en réalité écrit les oeuvres d'Alexandre et secrètement une revue et qui tombe amoureux de Cathérine.
